Building a sustainable future by making breakthroughs

As Arkema's first R&D center in China, the Changshu R&D center is located in Arkema's Changshu site, the Group's largest industrial platform, and was officially opened in 2013 and expanded in 2018 for a second phase. Over the past ten years, the Changshu R&D Center has blended strategy with practice, R&D with production, and sought breakthroughs in innovation, creating innovative products and solutions that meet customers' expectations and needs in a variety of market segments, including automotive, transportation, adhesives, new energy, water treatment, coatings and electronics.

In recent years, the R&D Center has also been responding to the Group's vision of "Innovative Materials for a Sustainable World" and has been working closely with partners in various fields to achieve innovation centered on sustainability strategies and decarbonization commitments.

At present, Arkema has been working with Prof. Zheng Jinyang, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Zhejiang University Hydrogen Energy Institute, and his team to focus on the "Compatibility study of Rilsan® PA11 in high-pressure hydrogen". Based on localized standards in China and the in-depth integration of Arkema's Rilsan® PA11 experience in global high-pressure hydrogen storage, it is expected to help the rapid development of hydrogen energy storage and transportation in China.

In addition, the Changshu R&D Center is working with Akila, a digital twin platform, to support the Group's decarbonization strategy in China and the "Arkema Energy" Project for Energy Efficiency. The Project will start with the optimization of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system of the Group’s administration building to improve its energy efficiency.

Looking back, our past has been fruitful. Looking to the future, we shall not forget our original aspiration. Arkema Changshu R&D Center will continue to work hard to develop and innovate in the field of specialty materials and promote the local sustainable development process.
